In his viral video, TikTok user Noah Da Boa (@noahxboa) broke down his go-to advice for reducing your energy bills in the cold weather.

“This winter, to avoid paying thousands on heating, follow these three steps,” he told his audience.

For his first hack, Noah recommended pushing your furniture away from your radiators.

He also suggested removing any clothes you have drying on your radiators as they tend to absorb the heat.

Removing obstructions can help the heat to circulate freely around the room.

Noah also told his followers to invest in a draught excluder for their doors.

You can pick up a £1.89 door bottom sealing strip from Temu.

Data cited by the Carbon Community shows that 25% of heat in homes in lost through draughts.

Draughts can occur in areas other than below your doors.

To thoroughly check your home, examine any potential cracks and the areas around your windows.

As well as preventing draughts, the TikToker also revealed a way to maximise the heat from your radiators.

He suggested adding reflective panels behind your radiators to “keep the heat trapped inside.”

A roll of aluminium radiator insulation film is available for £3.48 from Temu.

According to Power To Switch, 35% of the heat in your home escapes through the walls.

For his final tip, Noah revealed the best way to stay warm on a budget.

5 Money-saving tips for autumn/winter

1. Draught-proof your home

It takes time and money to heat up your home, so it’s important that you do as much as you can to keep in the warmth. Close your doors and windows, and fill any gaps with a draught excluder.

2. Dial down your thermostat

According to Energy UK, turning down your thermostat by just one degree Celsius could cut your heating bill by up to 10%, and save you around £85 per year. Plus, if you don’t have a thermostat, installing one could save up to £70 per year!

3. Move furniture around

Make sure not big, bulky furniture like sofas are blocking radiators.

4. Wash clothes on a lower temp and add an extra spin

Unless it’s bedding, towels or really dirty items, dial down the temperature to 20 or 30 degrees, and do a double spin to remove excess water.

5. Heat the person not the home

There’s not point heating up a room that no one is sitting in, so be mindful about which radiators are on.

“Using an electric blanket, it only uses 1p of energy per hour and keeps you so warm,” he explained.

The experts at Lakeland revealed that using an electric blanket is more economically savvy then turning on your central heating.

While most electric blankets now come with an auto shut-off function, manufacturers recommend using with caution.

If you’re planning on using your electric blanket during the night, ensure it is set to a low temperature.

You should also avoid using it alongside a heated mattress protector.
