(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — It was a spirited day in Manitou Springs on Saturday, Oct. 26, as thousands gathered to watch the spirits of Emma Crawford race down Manitou Avenue for the title of coffin race champion.
The official winners have been announced, along with the winner of a new category in the race.
- First Place: Manitou Springs Kiwanis/Key Club
- Second Place: Manitou Music Foundation’s “Treblemakers”
- Third Place: American Furniture Warehouse’s “Zombie Tigers”
There were also categories for costumes, pallbearers, and coffins:
- Best Emma: Shellie Finn of “Emma’s Wake” won her third “Best Emma” title in the 30th year! “Her maroon gown of the era and her striking eyes and facial makeup were top notch.” stated the judges.
- Best Entourage: “Love at First Bite” took this award with their unique gathering of bloodsuckers and night creatures racing and parading in the name of Emma Crawford.
- Best Coffin: “Conjuring Emma” took this crown with a floating Emma above their coffin in a sheer chiffon gown of ghostly accord.
A new title was born this year with the inception of the “Bristol Brewer’s Cup,” a now-annual award given to a bar/restaurant/brewery electing to compete in this challenge. The inaugural winner was La Burla Bee with their time of 30.7 seconds over 7 teams racing for this first time cup.
The Coffin Cup was raced at the conclusion of the regular heats, pitting “Curse of the Black Pearl” from the Frozen Dead Guy Days of Estes Park, CO and first place winners “Manitou Springs Kiwanis/Key Club” and Manitou Springs will hold the trophy for a second year in a row after Manitou Springs Kiwanis/Key Club racers clocked a time of 26.9 seconds in the Coffin Cup Race!
