Why the Nutter Butter TikTok is going viral?

NUTTER Butters have been on our shelves for more than 50 years but now they have gone viral for a different reason.

Many have noticed that their TikTok account has had a complete shake-up and while some love it, some hate it.

The cookies were first created back in 1969 and have been a fan favourite ever since.

The creators of the snack, Nabisco which is owned by Mondelez International, celebrated the 50th anniversary of Nutter Butter in 2019.

Social media confusion

Many brands now rely on social media to sell their products, but some think that Nutter Butter may have taken it a step too far.

The Nutter Butter TikTok page is hard to explain unless you’ve seen it but it’s definitely bizarre.

Videos are made up of loud music, psychedelic colours and recurring characters.

It’s rare that any of the clips make any sense, however they’ve certainly become viral and got people talking.

They fall under the brain rot TikTok genre where users enjoy watching random animations that don’t entirely make sense.

Although the Nutter Butter the videos appear have have been looking like they have been randomly generated, it’s thought that the brand may have a new social media manager who is behind the experimental, somewhat avant-garde approach.

Sensitive content

Many of the TikTok clips come up with a sensitive content warning before playing which shows just how creepy some of them are.

Users have commented on the videos asking why exactly they have come up with the warning.

One wrote: “A warning before a nutter butter vid is crazy,” while a second added: “nutter butter are you guys okay?”

Recurring characters

There are three recurring characters which often appear in the brand’s content which are Aidan, Nadia and the clown.

Aidan is person who has had a Nutter Butter superimposed onto his head and he appears in the majority of the videos, with fans suggesting he is the main character of the TikTok account.

Meanwhile, Nadia is a black cloud character who is often seen alongside Aidan.

Fans have had some interesting theories as to why the three characters are the central focus of the clips.

One user suggested the theory: “Aidan’s tragic past involves his son being murdered by an intruder in their home.

“Nadia [is] likely Aidan’s wife. Hints of a wedding and the similarity of her name to ‘Aidan’ suggest she plays a significant role in the story.”

They added: “The Nutter Butter Clown originates from old commercials where he gave sweets to children, promoting the idea of accepting candy from strangers. Now, he symbolizes chaos and menace in the TikTok content.”

The real Aidan

Despite Aidan apparently being the main character of Nutter Butter TikToks, it seems that he could actually be based on a real person.

For more than a year, digital advertising student Aidan Moloney left comments of his name on Nutter Butter’s TikTok posts.

The comments went viral so the brand started using them in their social media marketing from January 2024.

The new strategy started by editing Aidan’s name into the packaging of the cookie in videos but now there is a character named after him.

The real Aidan now works as part of the marketing team but it isn’t confirmed whether he is the brains behind the bizarre content.
