This controversial TikTok trend is sweeping American high school football teams.

Called BTA – which is short for Beat That A** – the craze has been seen on football fields across the US.

It happens during the handshake line after a game, and involves the young players whipping their defeated opponents on the behind.

The trend sees members of the winning team using belts or towels to lash the losing team as they walk by.

The BTA trend begins

According to reports, the trend started in Texas at a Houston high school.

It then moved to the Northern California, before hitting the Midwest and then spreading to the rest of the US.

Thousands of videos have now been posted from high school football games in America.

They are often taken from the perpetrator’s point of view, and they see them flogging their opponent on the behind as they walk past in the handshake line.

Criticism of the trend

Due to the nature of this TikTok trend, it has received harsh criticism.

Some schools have even taken to the social media platform to beg students not to do it.

One teacher, warned that if his pupils took part in this craze during a football match that they would be “reprimanded”.

The TikTok user warned parents to be aware of this craze as it is “harmful” and called it “unsportsmanlike behavior” that should “not be encouraged”.

It’s been reported that some schools have even gone as far as suspending their pupils if they are seen taking part in this trend.

BTA Backlash

Taking to social media, parents have expressed their thoughts on the controversial BTA trend.

“I haven’t seen it yet here in OK, but I definitely believe it.

“I’ll be having a stern conversation with all three of mine now. Not allowed, boys!

This mother warned: “As a mom to a 3rd year football player, I’d yank my kid off the field so quickly.

“Nobody will touch my child with any object like that or anything else. This is unacceptable!”
