Wamiqa Gabbi was born in India on September 29, 1993. She is an Indian actress who has appeared in Telugu, along with Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Hindi films. She did a small role in the Hindi film Jab We Met released in 2007, but she got more recognition with the Punjabi film Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 opposite Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amrinder Gill. Her role further earned her a nomination as the Best Supporting Actress at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards and marked the beginning of a successful leading lady career in Punjabi films.
Wamiqa went on to establish herself with other prominent films in Punjabi cinema, including Ishq Brandy 2014, Nikka Zaildar 2 2017, Parahuna 2018, Dil Diyan Gallan 2019, and Nikka Zaildar 3 2019. For her performance in the Malayalam film Godha, she was awarded the Best Female Debutante at the Flowers Indian Film Award of 2018, consolidating her position as a proficient actress.
Chandigarh-born Wamiqa belongs to a Punjabi family, as her father, Govardhan Gabbi, was a writer, and her mother, Raj Kumari Kaushal, is a homemaker. Wamiqa has one brother named Hardik Gabbi, who is also part of the film industry as a director and actor.
Wamiqa started her journey in the entertainment industry at a pretty young age. As a child artist, she started acting in the Punjabi TV serial Saude Dillan De and then entered a dance show judged by Aamir Khan which led to her selection in Jab We Met. Later, she continued her education in Chandigarh at St. Xavier School and eventually graduated from DAV College.
Apart from acting, Wamiqa is fond of dancing, miming, reading, and traveling and also loves adventure sports. Her zodiac sign is Libra, and she is 29 years old.
Wamiqa has an eclectic mix of films lined up for her, from various languages to various genres. Her other notable works are Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam, a love drama in Tamil; the Malayalam science fiction horror film 9; and an appearance in Nikka Zaildar 3, a Punjabi film. She was also seen in the Netflix series Mai: A Mother’s Rage as the important setting in a saga of a mother to avenge her daughter’s death.
