Walmart says ‘input is valuable’ & vows probe after shopper stopped in tracks at checkout over payment method issue

WALMART has admitted the input of shoppers is valuable after a customer blasted the chain following a checkout problem.

The shopper was so incensed that he decided to abandon his cart and walk out of the store.

He was apoplectic that he couldn’t use his cell phone to pay for his groceries, per an X post.

The shopper claimed workers laughed at him when he rubbished the policy.

“Well, I laughed when I walked away with all the items still at the register,” he said in response.

A Walmart spokesperson responded to the shopper on social media.

“Your input is valuable to us,” the company said.

They invited the shopper to send the chain a direct message, where could provide further details about his in-store experience.

The customer is not the only shopper who has raised grievances with the supermarket chain over its payment policies.

Shoppers can pay for items using cash and cards – but they cannot use Apple Pay.

Walmart is one of the few retailers that doesn’t allow customers to pay for goods via Apple Pay.

The company’s CEO, Doug McMillon, has explained why the chain hasn’t yet teamed up with the tech giant.

He told Stratechery that he hadn’t ruled out working with Apple, but nothing appears imminent.

“Those conversations are ongoing,” McMillon admitted.

“I think in our case, we would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The Walmart app is a contactless form of payment.

Why doesn’t Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don’t offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.

All shoppers have to do is link up their debit and credit cards to the platform.

Despite McMillon’s explanation, it has done nothing to appease some customers.

Shoppers have raged after they’ve been forced to ditch their carts as they were impacted.

Responding to one shopper who said they couldn’t buy anything, Walmart said it was here to help.

Other furious customers urged the chain to embrace the 21st century.

Walmart is not the only chain that doesn’t allow customers to pay via Apple Pay.

The Home Depot has come under fire over its decision not to roll out the popular payment method.

The U.S. Sun reported how the hardware company confirmed no decision had been made about embracing Apple Pay.

Sam’s Club seemed to disappoint some shoppers by confirming that it doesn’t plan to roll out Apple Pay services.
