Vicksburg Police announce 3rd annual Citizens Academy

VICKSBURG, MS – The Vicksburg Police Department will host its third annual Citizens Academy starting Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The class educates Vicksburg citizens on the department’s Mission, Vision, and Values, as well as its policies, procedures, and day-to-day operations.

For those who attend, the course provides a unique inside look at the Vicksburg Police Department and presents an opportunity to increase the public’s understanding of the department. Furthermore, by highlighting the role, capabilities, and limitations of the department, this course helps to increase the level of trust, respect, and also a sense of understanding and awareness between the community the Vicksburg Police Department serve and law enforcement.

The course consists of a series of two-hour classes held on Tuesday evenings each week for ten weeks. The instruction is comprehensive, and covers a different area of the Police Department and the criminal justice system each week. Classes are held at the Police Department Training Room, located at 820 Veto Street.

“Join us for The Doug Arp Citizens Academy, where we open the doors to the Vicksburg Police Department!” said Police Chief, Penny Jones, “This engaging program offers a unique opportunity for our community to walk in our shoes, learning about everything from responding to emergency calls and crime scene investigations to the vital roles of our district attorney and E911 center. Together, let’s build a stronger, safer community!”

The Citizens Academy admits 10-15 people per class and is open to Warren County residents. Interested persons can pick up applications at the Front Desk of the Police Department, 820 Veto Street. The application deadline is Friday, October 11, 2024. For more information, call (601) 636-2511.
