Dr. Jonathan Nelson, Head Director of the VHS Pride Band, expressed his pride in the students’ dedication. “We prepared for this competition as if we were going to a state competition. We wanted to make the performance as perfect as possible because we knew it would be stiff competition with the other high school bands,” said Nelson. “Love the Pride!”

Assistant Band Director and Beginning Band Coordinator Kendra Lee echoed similar sentiments, praising the unity within the group. “We’ve been preparing for this competition since band camp in July, practicing Mondays through Thursdays from 4:30 pm-6 pm to get our 8th-12th graders ready. We are planning to modify the show a little bit for the next home game for our supporters to see and showcase,” In addition, Lee added, “These kids have worked extremely hard, and the majority of the students are involved in multiple organizations throughout the school year. We just want the community to rally behind the band and show support!”

For seniors like Paris Williams, a trombone player, the competition held special significance. “Being a part of this band has been an amazing journey, and to see all of our hard work pay off in my final year is unforgettable,” said Williams.

The VHS Pride Band continues to prepare for future performances, building on the momentum and success of the Magnolia Marching Championships.
