VANDERBILT fans tore down a goalpost, walked it 2.5 miles across town and dumped it in a river Saturday night.
But the college football supporters were actually celebrating the biggest night in the school’s sporting history.

Vanderbilt stunned No. 1 college football team in the country Alabama in a 40-35 victory.
Their stunned supporters invaded the field after causing a massive upset.
And pictures showed students and fans crowding round a goalpost – with some of the most agile supporters sitting on it.
Footage circulating online then showed the goalpost being carried into downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
And another clip showed the post being tossed into the Cumberland River.
The river is a 2.5-mile trek from the team’s FirstBank Stadium in the west of town.
Stunned onlookers watched and filmed the post’s hour-long journey.
And students cheered as it finally reached its destination – and met a splash ending.
Vanderbilt fans were keen to soak in the occasion – given the rarity of such a feat.
Their team had never beaten a top-five ranked side in 60 attempts.
And Vanderbilt had not taken down Alabama in 40 years.
Alabama was ranked No. 1 in the nation after beating SEC rivals Georgia last weekend.
Coach Clark Lea was covered in a Gatorade shower by his players as the clock ran out.
“It’s meant to be emotional,” he said.
“I bled a lot into this, and it just feels great to be able to celebrate with the team that I love and care about.

“I look forward to doing that more in the future.”
“There’s more for us than this.
“This isn’t a finishing point, but it’s a hell of an arrival for tonight.
“We’ll celebrate it. I love this university. I love this team.
“Let’s go get some more.”
