Unemployment Rates Released, Most Hickory Metro Counties See Slight Increase

Unemployment rates increased slightly or remained steady in Hickory Metro counties according to the latest report. The update was recently issued by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor & Economic Analysis Division. The report shows the August unemployment rates.

Catawba County’s unemployment rate is 4.2 percent, unchanged from July. Alexander County’s jobless rate increased to 4.1 percent from 4 percent even in the last report. Burke County is showing an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent, up from 4 percent even. Caldwell County’s August jobless rate is 4.4 percent, up from 4.2 in July.

The unemployment rate for the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area or MSA is 4.2 percent, up from 4.1 in the last report. Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton is tied for the fifth lowest unemployment rate among 15 MSA’s in the state.

North Carolina’s jobless rate is 4.3 percent, unchanged from the previous report. Unemployment rates increased in 49 counties, decreased in 29, and remained unchanged in 22. Scotland County has the state’s highest unemployment rate at 7.4 percent while Dare County has the lowest at 3.3 percent.
