Two SLPS administrators step down within days of each other

ST. LOUIS – Tuesday night, the St. Louis Public Schools Board of Education met in the midst of even more turnover. Before the meeting, held at Sumner High School, news broke that two more district administrators had stepped down. It comes exactly two weeks after the board fired former Superintendent Dr. Keisha Scarlett.

It has been a year of turmoil and turnover in the St. Louis Public School system. According to our partners at the St. Louis Post Dispatch, both the district’s director of transportation and director of safety are out.

Col. DeAndre Davis, the district’s director of safety, reportedly resigned on Monday. That makes Davis the second administrator in a week to leave the district.

On Friday, longtime director of transportation Toyin Akinola retired just seven weeks into the school year. It comes as the district has faced serious transportation issues, most notably a shortage of school buses.

This all comes just two weeks after the board fired former Superintendent Keisha Scarlett. The district also fired communication director George Sells back in August.

FOX 2 asked the district for a statement on the changes early Tuesday, but never heard back.

The board’s next meeting is set for Tuesday, Nov. 12.
