Two people killed in car crash in Hollister-Gilroy area, authorities say

SANTA CLARA COUNTY — Two people were killed in a car crash Monday morning in the southern part of the county, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Around 12:30 a.m., the CHP was notified of a possible crash on State Route 25, south of Bloomfield Avenue in the Hollister-Gilroy area. At the scene, officers found two vehicles blocking the roadway.

Authorities said a 24-year-old man from Gilroy who was driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra and an unknown 35-year-old woman from Hollister who was driving a 2012 Dodge Charger were both found unresponsive at the scene.

The preliminary investigation found that the man was driving southbound and the woman was driving northbound, both at unknown speeds, according to the CHP. For unknown reasons, the Nissan swerved over the double solid yellow lines into the northbound lane, causing the Nissan to hit the front of the Dodge Charger, killing both drivers.

The highway was closed in both directions for about five hours as officers conducted a scene investigation.

CHP authorities said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. The identities of the people killed will by released by the Santa Clara County coroner’s office following confirmation of identity notification of their next of kin.
