Tropical Storm Recovery Efforts Continue In Burke County

Officials from Burke County have released an update on their recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Helene, which resulted in widespread damage, power outages, and ongoing rescue operations. Burke County Emergency Services, in collaboration with multiple county and city fire departments and Burke County Search and Rescue, is working around the clock.

Burke County Search and Rescue found and extricated a man from the entrance of Unknown Trail off Old N.C. 105 Monday (September 30). The individual was alive and uninjured after a tree crashed through his vehicle during the storm on Friday (September 27). Officials were still assessing to determine possible fatalities and injuries.

The City of Morganton was still under a boil water advisory, and citizens are asked to conserve water while they continue filling the system. When water service is restored, consumers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation) or use bottled water. Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms in the water.

Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible. This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued. The City of Morganton supplies water to Brentwood Water and Burke County Water.
