Trader Joe’s will close down all 597 locations for entire day in just weeks – forcing shoppers to switch up plans

TRADER Joe’s has confirmed thousands of its stores will be closed for a whole day in the coming weeks.

The decision will force shoppers to switch up their plans so they don’t get stuck.

All 597 stores will be closed to mark Thanksgiving, which falls on November 28 this year, the chain has announced.

Bosses have allowed workers to have the day off to celebrate the holiday with their families.

The company says it has shuttered stores for the Thanksgiving holiday for more than 30 years.

OTHER CLOSURES

AldiBest Buy, and JCPenney locations also closed last year to mark the celebration.

Walgreens chiefs made the historic decision last year to close most of its stores for Thanksgiving.

But its 24-hour stores remained open – despite the holiday.

Kroger, Albertsons, and Whole Foods shoppers were warned that stores’ timetables would differ depending on location.

Shoppers needing last-minute groceries could still buy items from Dollar General and Big Lots stores.

Walmart has also confirmed thousands of its stores will be closed for Thanksgiving.

This year will be the fifth consecutive year that supermarkets will be for the November celebration.

Since the late 1980s, Walmart supermarkets were always open on Thanksgiving but in 2020, the company broke with tradition.

John Furner, the CEO of Walmart U.S., explained at the time it was a reward for the sacrifices staffers had made during the pandemic.

He hailed workers for stepping up and told USA Today: “We want you to enjoy the day at home with your loved ones.”

Furner said the idea to close stores for Thanksgiving came from a Walmart worker in Texas.

Walmart stores are expected to open at their normal hours the day before Thanksgiving and on Black Friday.

The supermarkets are open for most holidays throughout the year.

After Thanksgiving, the next time stores will be closed is Christmas Day.

Many chains have not yet announced their holiday hours yet.
