And now, some thirty years later, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright have reunited for the new film Here, which had its world premiere at AFI Fest at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Friday.
Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis is also part of that core group of artists looking to reunite, serving as director and co-writer of the screenplay with Eric Roth, who has the distinction of being the writer of Forrest Gump.
As they strutted their stuff on the red carpet, it was easy to see the chemistry between Hanks and Wright, who coordinated in all-black outfits for the premiere.
Hanks, 68, opted for a classic black two-piece suit that he paired with a black shirt and shoes.

The actress, 58, was also said to attend the premiere in matching pumps, and had her blonde locks styled short.
While in the spotlight of the red carpet, the duo appeared to laugh and joke as they posed for photos.

The drama film, which is based on the 2014 graphic novel by Richard McGuire, stars Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, Gwilym Lee and Ophelia Lovibond.

Thirty years earlier, Forrest Gump became a cultural phenomenon, grossing $678.2 million in art at the worldwide box office against a budget of $55 million.
Among its many accolades were thirteen Academy Award nominations, resulting in six wins, including Best Picture, Best Director for Zemeckis and Best Actor for Hanks.
In December 2011, Forrest Gump became one of the rare films selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry.
The Registry said the film was “honored for its technological innovations (the digital insertion of Gump seamlessly into vintage archival footage), its resonance within the culture that has elevated Gump (and what he represents in terms of American innocence) to the status of folk hero , and his attempt to respond both playfully and seriously to controversial aspects of the traumatic history of that time.’
