Thousands Continue To Vote In Hickory Metro, N.C. Hits Two Million Voters

According to a news release issued Thursday by the North Carolina State Board of Elections, more than two million voters had cast ballots in the 2024 general election in North Carolina. According to preliminary Board of Elections data, the ballots cast number represents a statewide turnout of about 26% of North Carolina’s nearly 7.8 million registered voters

In Catawba County 34,529 ballots had been submitted, with 32,713 of them being issued by early and 1,816 by mail. Just under 30% of Catawba County’s 116,179 registered voters had turned out so far. Alexander County showed 8,372 ballots as of Thursday with 8,161 being submitted early and 211 by mail. There are 25,689 registered voters in Alexander County and just under 33% had voted so far.

Burke County’s vote total was 17,451 on Thursday, with 16,867 ballots being issued early and 584 by mail. Approximately 29% of Burke County’s 60,596 registered voters had submitted ballots. 17,857 votes had been issued in Caldwell County with 17,087 being cast early and 770 by mail. 32% of Caldwell County’s 55,554 registered voters had issued ballots.

As of Thursday’s update, of the 2,015,754 ballots cast in North Carolina, 1,895,314 were submitted in-person, and 120,440 by mail. Through the end of the day Wednesday, nearly 1,888,000 voters had cast ballots in person during the first seven days of the early voting period. That’s an increase of 6.6% over 2020, when more than 1,761,000 voters had cast ballots after seven days of in-person voting. Factoring in increases in registered voters between 2020 and 2024, in-person early voting is up 0.4% over 2020.
