The PS5 Pro version of Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature ray-traced ambient occlusion and other notable improvements

BioWare Announces Plans to Reveal Dragon Age The Veilguard Release

The PS5 Pro version of Dragon Age: The Veil Guard will have some improvements compared to the base console version, developer BioWare has confirmed.

The news comes from A blog post on EA’s official website written by studio technical director Maciej Kurowski. In addition to global release times and system requirements for the PC version, Kurowski detailed what improvements players can expect Dragon Age: The Veil Guard on PS5 Pro.

“The game’s Fidelity and Performance modes will both feature hardware improvements,” Kurowski wrote, “including improved resolution in the 30fps Fidelity and 60fps Performance modes. In addition, there will be several improved visual settings in the 30fps Fidelity and 60fps Performance modes.”

So far, it’s all the stuff we expected from an upgraded PS5 Pro version, but Kurowski goes on to suggest that the team is using technology exclusive to Sony’s $700 upgraded console. Here, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard will feature “improved image quality thanks to Sony’s new AI-based upscaler, PSSR.” Kurowski also confirmed that the team has “enabled Raytraced Ambient Occlusion (RTAO) in 60fps Performance mode, which was previously only available on the base PlayStation 5 with 30fps Fidelity mode.”

In summary, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard Players on PS5 Pro can not only take advantage of Pro-specific features such as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution to improve image quality. They will also benefit from technically demanding features such as RTAO available at higher frame rates. It seems like on PS5 Pro you could get an experience comparable to that of a fairly high-end PC.

However, take this with a grain of salt; it remains to be seen how well the game runs on PS5 Pro with all these additional improvements enabled. There’s still a chance of uneven performance even on more powerful hardware; hopefully BioWare can deliver an experience that matches the expensive mid-gen upgrade.
