(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) issued Stage I fire bans on Thursday, Oct. 3, due to dry weather conditions.

  • Burning materials not contained in an outdoor fireplace or permanent fire ring, any explosives, fireworks, model rockets, and burning of irrigation ditches are all banned.
  • Open burning regulated by a Teller County Burn Permit is prohibited.

Individuals are still allowed to perform various burns under the resolution, only the following are allowed:

  • Use of charcoal grills, pellet grills, smokers, gas barbecues, gas firepits, liquid-fueled gas stoves, or lanterns that are at least 10 feet away from combustible materials.
  • Campfires contained in a permanent fire ring. A water supply or other approved fire-extinguishing device must be readily available.
  • Smoking in areas clear of flammable or designated smoking areas.
  • Outdoor welding or cutting with approved fire-extinguishing.

Teller County will lift the open burning ban when it is rescinded by the Sheriff’s Office.
