Suisun City man admitted to trafficking teen in Oakland, claimed he spent all the money on weed

OAKLAND — Within the same month, a Suisun City man was charged with human trafficking of a 17-year-old girl and agreed to plead no contest for a four-month jail term, court records show.

Deveion Bundah, 23, was charged on Sept. 12 with human trafficking and recruiting a minor into prostitution, both felonies. Just 11 days later, Bundah and Alameda County prosecutors agreed to a deal that required Bundah to plead to a lesser pimping charge in exchange for the jail term and probation.

Bunah is set to be sentenced later this month, and has been released from jail in the meantime, records show.

The case stems from an Aug. 30 sting operation in Oakland, where police have been ramping up efforts to combat the open air sex trade along International Boulevard, responding to a string of recent unrelated violent crimes in the area, including several homicides.

The 17-year-old girl was detained by an undercover officer, and police later found 900 text messages between her and Bundah on her phone. The conversations included ongoing discussions about sex work and a selfie that Bundah sent to the girl, which aided police in identifying him, according to court records.

Bundah later admitted to pimping the girl, but claimed he thought she was 19. He told police that he had only trafficked her for a single day and spent the entirety of the proceeds — which he estimated to be $300 — on marijuana, authorities said in court records.

The sentencing includes a 10-year court order to stay away from the victim, records show.
