Spartanburg nurse aide allegedly stole from vulnerable adult

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — A woman was arrested Thursday for multiple charges involving a vulnerable adult at a Spartanburg nursing home.

According to Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lamesha Thompson, 37, was arrested on the following charges:

  • one count – Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult
  • one count – Financial Identity Fraud
  • two counts – Forgery, value less than $10,000

The Spartanburg Police Department and the Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit investigated Thompson, who worked as a Certified Nurse Aide at White Oak Estates.

Officials said that between December 2023 and January 2024, Thompson accessed checking account information and checks that belonged to the resident.

Thompson is accused of forging two checks, one for $6,000 and the other for $6,500, subsequently depositing them into her own bank account.

If found guilty on all charges, Thompson could could face up to 20 years of prison time, as well and fines determined by the court.

The attorney general’s office will prosecute the case.
