SHOPPERS have just a few weeks left until a major supermarket will closing down several branches.
Stop & Shop has announced it will shut 38 locations, but some will be closing their doors earlier than expected.

The closures are part of the company’s growth strategy, and it will continue to operate more than 350 stores across five states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey.
The decision is part of efforts to focus on growth through price investments, stronger customer value, and store remodels. The company has completed over 190 remodels since 2018.
Stop & Shop will offer impacted employees positions in other locations.
There will be five locations shutting down in Connecticut, including Ansonia, Torrington, Stamford, Milford, and Danbury.
In Massachusetts, branches in Brockton, Raynham, Plymouth, Shrewsbury, Newton, Springfield, Worcester, Pembroke, will also close.
Edison, South Edison, Howell, Phillipsburg, Piscataway, Carlstadt, Franklin Township, and Ringwood will be closing in New Jersey.
Six Stop & Shop closures in New York will include Brooklyn, Greenvale, West Haverstraw, Coram, Hempstead, and Mt. Vernon.
And in Rhode Island, branches in Johnston and Providence will close.
Shoppers have until November 2, 2024, to visit the Stop & Shop stores that are set to close.
The closures are planned to happen on or before that date.
Some Stop & Shop locations may be closing earlier than the expected November 2 deadline due to factors like underperformance, local market conditions, or logistical challenges.
The company plans to communicate specific closing dates to customers well in advance, which suggests that varying conditions at individual stores — such as operational costs, lease agreements, or declining foot traffic — may influence early closures.
This staggered closing approach also allows Stop & Shop to manage the transition more efficiently and support employees and customers during the process.
Shoppers were not shocked by a recently announced wave of Stop & Shop shutdowns in the same state.
Many had expected the store closures to happen sooner, but shoppers still have a few weeks to get what they need.
“I’m surprised it lasted this long with Target next door and Walmart directly across the street,” wrote a Stop & Shop customer in a post on Facebook about one of the closing nine locations.
Another person said they were “sad” about the closures and “always go” to their nearest Stop & Shop.
Others were even satisfied with the supermarket’s departure.
“Good riddance,” a frustrated shopper wrote.
