Chrishell Stause has revealed that people always make 'assumptions' about her when discussing being homeless as a child

Chrishell Stause has revealed that people always make ‘assumptions’ about her when discussing being homeless as a child.

The Selling Sunset star, 43, has often opened up about her family issues on the Netflix reality TV show and has now candidly discussed her upbringing.

Chrishell previously told how she once missed a year of school while living in a tent, when she was forced to wash her hair in the river and rely on food stamps.

In a wide-ranging conversation, she has now revealed that she relied on Red Cross donations for her school supplies, calling herself “lucky” to have had access to such resources.

She told me Daily Telegraph: ‘I remember getting all my school donations for the new year, all my folders and pens and books and all those things that every child needs to start a new year, that all came from the Red Cross, I was very lucky boy, every time I got that.’

Chrishell, who is now known as a luxury real estate agent with a net worth of $6 million, said people often make “assumptions” about her upbringing because of her successful career.

She admitted that she enjoys being “underappreciated” so she can challenge people’s opinions of her while recalling the challenging aspects of her childhood.

“I like being underestimated, so I have nowhere to go but into people’s heads,” she explained.

‘I actually feel very comfortable in that position, but it’s very funny when people don’t know my story and make assumptions (about me).

‘You never know where someone comes from, you can’t recognize a book by its cover.’

Chrishell, whose parents struggled with addiction and mental health, urged Aussies to donate their belongings to those in need, as she talked about how important donations were in her own life.

Her comments came as she promoted the Red Cross x Uber Clothing Drive, which will take place on October 19, encouraging people to donate clothes instead of selling them.

Uber will offer free pick-ups in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth between 10am and 4pm to help vulnerable Australians.

The actress revealed she still donates her own clothes and urged others to give unused items to those in need, which they will ‘cherish’.

Chrishell was born in Draffenville, Kentucky, and was raised by her mother Ranae and her adoptive father Jeff, both of whom died of lung cancer about five years ago.

While she now sells multi-million dollar real estate for a living, Chrishell has candidly discussed her experience of homelessness growing up.

“I’ve been homeless a few times in my life and it was really hard growing up, but now I’m super grateful for everything,” she explained in a 2018 interview with PEOPLE.

She revealed that she was homeless in seventh and tenth grades, which she tried to hide from her peers at the time.

“As you can imagine, as a high school student, that wasn’t the most fun. “It was just really hard to live the lie at school and make sure no one knows, and really feel ashamed about it,” she said.

Chrishell shared a photo of herself on a luxury holiday in Greece and admitted that her teenage self would never have believed where she is in her life.
