Sarah’s Home: helping survivors of sex trafficking

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — This month, join FOX21 News for Fashion with a Purpose, a fundraising fashion show to support survivors of sex trafficking in Southern Colorado.

The event is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 26 and proceeds will benefit several local organizations including Sarah’s Home, which is a group home for teen girls who have survived sex trafficking.

The organization does not accept government funding, which is one of the reasons it needs support from fundraisers like Fashion with a Purpose.

Located in El Paso County, the faith-based home offers therapy, life skills training, spiritual guidance, and so much more.

According to Sarah’s Home, one out of four girls will be sexually abused before they’re 18.

Part of the goal at Sarah’s Home is to show victims of sex trafficking that they have worth. Those living at the home receive all different kinds of help including; equine therapy, art therapy, and dance therapy. They also offer various outings, to help victims realize that there is more to life.

“We’ve had 39 girls up to now, we’re licensed by the state of Colorado, and we get our girls from all over the United States. The demand is excruciatingly high and the children are terribly broken,” said Vicki Proffit, the Executive Director at Sarah’s Home.

Tune in to FOX21 News at 6:30 on Oct. 16 to learn how the people at Sarah’s Home are working to establish Daniel Academy, a group home for boys who have survived sex trafficking.
