Ronwen Williams is the PSL’s new highest earner.
The Ballon d’Or nominee may be upset about not winning the Yashin Trophy last night, but no one can deny that he has had an incredible year.
The Mamelodi Sundowns’ keeper allowed Bafana Bafana fans to dream following his penalty heroics against Morocco and Cape Verde in the 2023 AFCON – a few months later he was raising the PSL trophy.

Following the departure of teammate Bongani Zungu, Williams now holds the club and league’s most lucrative contract, earning R500,000 a month.

The Bafana Bafana captain was voted the ninth best keeper in the world.
“It’s an honour and a privilege for me to be recognised among the greats. It’s a massive achievement. I still get goosebumps,” Williams said on the Ballon d’Or red carpet.
“Hopefully this will open doors for more Africans and more South Africans to get the recognition.”
“Definitely They play at the highest level, they play in the most prestigious tournaments and they’re doing well, so I try to steal from them and see how they stay at the highest level and I try to copy to try to be at their level.”

Mamelodi Sundowns experienced a PSL enigma on Sunday: they lost.
In the 82nd minute against Limpopo’s Polokwane FC, Bulelani Nikani headered the ball past Ronwen Williams, resulting in a 1-0 loss.
“I was not impressed with our speed of play, chance creation, and decision in the final. These are areas that we must work on to try and get ourselves back,” Manqoba Mngqithi told Independent Media.
“We thought we had improved tremendously in that regard. This is the team that played against (Golden) Arrows just the other day and scored five goals. But if (Sunday) they struggled to even have a shot on target, then we should be worried (as the team going forward).”
“We always have your match-day minus one, which is your match-day plus two. And it becomes very difficult to prepare the team,” he continued.
“This is then why we become reliant on training the team that we think we are going to use so that they have a little bit of training days. But when you have travelled, and you are away from home, it’s a little bit difficult. We are here on Sunday; we’ll arrive tomorrow (yesterday) at our base, and then we’ll have only one day to prepare.”
