Robert Lindsay has revealed he struggles to recognize his Hollywood friends because of the amount of Botox they’ve had.

The trio starred in new Channel 4 drama series Generation Z alongside Sue Johnston, 80, and Anita Dobson, 75, and insisted they have never been tempted to turn back the clock with a bit of plastic surgery.

In conversation with this week Radio timesLindsay said: ‘I just got back from LA. I worked there in the 80’s, and I talked to some very old friends, but I didn’t recognize any of them. I mean it. I was completely shocked.’

Sue Johnston agreed, saying: “I just think it’s sad, doesn’t it?

‘I’m very proud of the three of us. We’ve gone with the flow, gotten our wrinkles and let me tell you, we’re getting quite shamefully old.’

“I was talking to an agent yesterday who gets a lot of requests from casting directors who say they don’t want anyone who has already done work,” Dobson said.

‘If they were playing creatures like Sue and I play, they’d be like, “Oh no, I just had Botox all over and my chin done and my nose done and I don’t really want to cover it up”.’

The new series is about a quiet, sleepy town that is soon overrun by the apocalypse when an army convoy overturns outside a nursing home, causing a chemical leak with very deadly consequences.

A group of teenagers become infected with the virus when one of the gang’s grandmothers becomes infected and attacks her.

Mr Lindsay is father to sons Samuel, 24, and James, 21, whom he shares with his wife Rosemarie Ford, a celebrity presenter and dancer.

He also shares daughter Sydney, 36, with actress Diane Weston, who became an actress herself.

The My Family actor, who plays the character Morgan, said he took the gig because his children liked the script.

“Yes, although it was a very mysterious offer,” he said.

He continued: ‘My children responded much better to the script than I did initially, because they suffered very badly from Covid, during their A-levels and while studying at university. It was really tough for them.

‘I had a body part – a torso with pieces missing and an incision in the stomach – made for a specific order.

‘After the shoot the producers called me and asked if I wanted it, otherwise they were going to throw it away. I said, “Why not?”

They delivered it in a box, which my wife and son opened, probably thinking it was a bottle of champagne or something. I heard the scream from those below.’
