Dani Carvajal will undergo surgery in the coming days after suffering a serious knee injury during Real Madrid’s 2-0 win against Villarreal.
Carvajal, 32, was in tears as he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher on Saturday after a challenge with Yeremy Pino.
A statement from the Spanish club read: ‘Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal by Real Madrid’s medical service, the player has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a torn external collateral ligament and a torn patellar tendon in his right leg. He will undergo surgery in the coming days.’
In a post on Instagram, Spain international Carvajal wrote: ‘Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed.

‘I will have to undergo surgery and be off the field for a few months.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti said after the match: ‘Dani Carvajal’s screams were heard, something that doesn’t happen every day.
“We’re going to support him with everything we can,” he said after the match.
Vinicius Junior’s excellent long-term performance sealed Real Madrid’s 2-0 home win and moved them level on points with LaLiga leaders Barcelona.
However, the Brazilian is also struggling with injuries after leaving the field with his shoulder.
Barcelona, who remain at the top of the table in terms of goal difference, play Alaves on Sunday.
