JOAQUIN Phoenix and Rooney Mara posed for snaps at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles last night after ‘secretly getting married’.
Rarely-seen couple Joaquin, 49, and Rooney, 39, put on a loved-up display at the fourth annual ceremony – with the Joker star even fixing his fiancée’s dress in front of photographers.

It comes after the actor sparked marriage speculation by calling Rooney his “wife”[/caption]
The actress looked stunning in a sheer, cream gown with floral embellishments that flashed her underwear.
She elevated her height with coordinating heels and wore her brunette locks in a tight bun – wearing a band on her ring finger.
Joaquin, meanwhile, put on a dapper display in a black tuxedo.
It comes just weeks after he sparked marriage speculation when he referred to Rooney as his “wife” on the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast.
While discussing how he crafted his 2020 Oscars speech, the Napoleon lead revealed that the inspiration for his moving words came during a conversation with “his mum and his wife”.
The pair got engaged in July 2019 after three years of dating.
That same year, the To Die For actor opened up about their relationship to Vanity Fair.
“She’s the only girl I ever looked up on the internet,” he admitted at the time.
“We were just friends, email friends. I’d never done that. Never looked up a girl online.”
The couple initially met while working on the film Her in 2013.
However, the pair started dating after they reunited on the set of the Mary Magdalene film in 2016.
The two made their red carpet debut at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

The couple share their firstborn son River, whom they welcomed in September 2020.
They named their child after Joaquin’s late brother, River Phoenix, who died at age 23 in October 1993.
The Stand By Me star died of a drug overdose at the notorious Viper Room, a Los Angeles nightclub previously owned by Johnny Depp.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star revealed her second pregnancy earlier this year at the 74th Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany.
She has since given birth.
In February 2020, Joaquin paid tribute to his late sibling when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Todd Philips’ Joker.
“I’ve been a scoundrel in my life. I’ve been selfish, I’ve been cruel at times, hard to work with,” he said towards the end of his lengthy speech.
“I’m grateful, so many of you in this room have given me a second chance and I think that’s when we’re at our best, when we support each other, not when we cancel each other out for past mistakes, but when we help each other to grow, when we educate each other, when we guide each other toward redemption. That is the best of humanity.”

In 2020, director Viktor Kossakovsky announced the baby news while promoting his film Gunda at the Zurich Film Festival.
During an interview, Viktor explained the star’s absence at the festival.
“He just got a baby, by the way, his name was… a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote it now,” he shared.
Joaquin served as executive producer on the animal documentary.
