Prep roundup: Miramonte’s offense hums in win over Las Lomas, Menlo School flag football extends winning streak to 14

GIRLS WATER POLO

No. 1 Miramonte 23, Las Lomas 10

Miramonte ran away with this match early. 

The Matadors put up two goals 50 seconds into the first period and didn’t look back. 

UCLA commit Ally Larsen totaled five goals and made plays on the defensive end to seal the win for Miramonte. 

“We go as Ally does,” said Miramonte head coach John Roemer. “She can always handle the physicality.”

Bea Hearey and Roxie Tarantino each added four goals for Miramonte. Las Lomas’ Aylin Chamanpardaz, Makena Dietschy and Cam Randall each had two goals. 

Miramonte (11-5, 1-1) has now had multiple signature wins in the last two weeks. Those wins include victories over St. Francis, Sacred Heart Prep, Carondelet and Acalanes. 

“We work really hard,” Roemer said. “But we also focus a lot on having fun. We’re coming together. We did really well in the Arroyo Grande Tournament, beating Carondelet, which is a really good team. We beat Sacred Heart Prep, another really good team. I think we’re playing our best water polo right now.”

No. 2 Sacred Heart Prep 17, St. Ignatius 6

The Gators’ offense hummed in a blowout win over St. Ignatius. 

Sofia Toyos led all scorers with three goals and recorded a steal. Cal McHelhinney, Kiernan Hogan, Vivan Golub and Megan Newby each had two goals. 

Heritage 8, Clayton Valley 7 (OT)

Heritage found a way to win a tight match at home after being down four goals in the first quarter. 

Sophomore Paige Weideman totaled four goals and a steal. Junior Luci Olson had two goals, two assists and three steals. Goalkeeper Aaralynn McDonald Shargots was a force in the net as she racked up 21 saves. 

“It takes a great deal of determination to win a game after being down four in the first quarter,” Heritage coach Lindsey Heaney told the Bay Area News Group. “I am so incredibly proud of these girls and I’m excited to see where the rest of the season takes us.”

Archbishop Mitty 17, St. Francis 11

The Monarchs bested the Lancers in a rivalry game behind a strong performance from attacker Zuie Jog

Jog totaled seven goals, five assists and three steals. Mitty freshman Mailani Lavaka also had a strong performance as she recorded two goals, two steals, an assist and a blocked shot. 

BOYS WATER POLO

No. 1 Campolindo 12, No. 7 College Park 8

Campolindo gets a leg up on College Park in the Diablo Athletic League-Foothill Division standings with a major win on the road. 

Sophomore Kourosh Koopah led Campolindo with three goals. Hayden O’Hare, Ellis Culleton and Jack Elder each recorded two goals. 

Junior Nic Austen led College Park with four goals.

Northgate 19, Acalanes 6

Junior attacker Oliver Knoflick turned in an outstanding performance for the Broncos as he scored six goals on seven shots and stole two passes to lead Northgate to its 15th win of the season. 

Freshman Drake Russell scored all four of his goals in the fourth quarter while Matt Knisley and Brody Gianni each added two goals. 

Acalanes sophomore Isaac Topp recorded two goals for the Dons. 

Heritage 14, Clayton Valley 9

Senior Tony Trapanese scored seven times as Heritage cruised past Clayton Valley. Senior Preston Swann found the back of the net four times and added two assists for Heritage in the home win. 

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

Menlo School 30, St. Ignatius 0

Menlo extended its winning streak to 14 and remained undefeated as the Knights blew out St. Ignatius at home. 

Sophomore Ava Allen threw four touchdown passes. Maren Mulloy caught two scores and Sophie Housser and Sophia Longinidis had a receiving touchdown. Ellie Knoll had an interception. 

Menlo hasn’t lost a game since its second game of last season. 

San Ramon Valley 13, Monte Vista 6

The Wolves put on a defensive clinic, forcing four interceptions and getting to the quarterback twice. 

Senior Sydney Gann picked off three passes and sophomore Mackayla Chojnacky had an interception. Junior Kyra Hansen had two sacks. 

Freshman Gia Ryan threw for 230 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Wide receiver Lauren Clark caught two scores. 

Sacred Heart Prep 24, St. Francis 9

Quarterback Ryleigh Longaker did it all as Sacred Heart Prep defeated St. Francis at Kezar Stadium. 

Longaker threw for 120 passing yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 45 yards. Cate Hansen was all over the field, catching a touchdown pass while returning a pick-six for another. Wide receiver Elle Shen caught two scores. 

The Gators forced five interceptions in the win. 

Heritage 14, Pittsburg 13

Kennedy Kell’s late-game heroics pushed Heritage past Pittsburg in a key Bay Valley Athletic League matchup.

Kell threw the game-tying pass to Malia Barcojo from six yards on fourth and goal late in the fourth quarter. Kell then threw the game-winning extra point to Emma Hayes on the very next play to seal the win for Heritage. 

Carlmont 19, Menlo-Atherton 0

Carlmont won its third straight game, blanking Menlo-Atherton at home. 

Quarterback Lauren Greene threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another. Carlmont’s defense pitched a shutout behind Ameena Mohammed and Bella Wilson who each had interceptions. 

The Scots have won seven of their last eight games. 

Alhambra 19, Las Lomas 0

Alhambra won two games on Wednesday night, the first coming against Las Lomas. The Bulldogs later beat Miramonte by the same score in Game 2. 

Jessica Blake combined to throw six touchdown passes in the two wins. Julissa Islas had two receiving touchdowns. Ashlyn Doughtie, Jesseca Harcourt and Juliana Carranza each had a receiving score. 

Mills 32, Hillsdale 0

Alexis Ivankov rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown as Mills blanked Hillsdale on the road. Quarterback Lina Vaka totaled 112 passing yards and two touchdowns to Amaya Moore. 

Kalyassa Chu led Mills’ defense with four flag pulls. 

San Mateo 27, Jefferson 0

The Bearcats were dominant as they shutout Jefferson at home. 

Kayla Lichaa had 296 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. Amara Vendel-Williams led San Mateo’s defense with five flag pulls. 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

San Leandro 3, Hayward 0

The Pirates ran away with this one, winning 25-11, 25-18, 25-15 over Hayward. Seniors Alicia Gomez and Vaiolupe Okusi each had 10 kills. Zoe Gaffney added eight kills and Makayla Arenas had 18 kills. 

Westmont 3, Christopher 1 

The Warriors bounced back after a loss to Evergreen Valley earlier this week, gaining a 27-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22 road win over Christopher. 

Senior Kianna Liggs had 20 kills and six blocks while junior Agatha Kogan recorded eight kills and 10 blocks. Audrey Jones totaled 17 digs. 

Northgate 3, Berean Christian 0

Northgate won a competitive match, defeating Berean Christian 25-21, 26-24, 25-20. 

With the win, Northgate improved to 20-0, 6-3 and moved to third place in the DAL-Foothill Division standings. 

Marley Seelye was a standout for Berean Chrisitan in the loss, recording 12 kills. LeAna Cimarra had 27 assists for the Eagles.
