The Costa Mesa Police Department has released new details surrounding the grisly discovery of a woman’s body inside a trash can on Tuesday.
Officers were initially called to a home in the 1900 block of Maple Avenue in Costa Mesa around 2:27 p.m. and, upon arrival, found a woman deceased at the scene.
Neighbors told KTLA that the victim was found in a trash can in the backyard. The Costa Mesa Police Department confirmed those reports Wednesday morning and identified the victim as 38-year-old Julie Anne Sanetra of Irvine.
Area residents said the neighborhood is usually quiet, and they were shocked to learn a deadly crime happened in their community.
A man originally said to be “a friend” of Sanetra’s was arrested at a family member’s house in the 3700 block of El Lado Drive in Glendale Tuesday evening, Costa Mesa police said.
He was identified as Daniel Allen Aldrich, 49, of Costa Mesa.
“Detectives were able to establish that the arrestee and the victim were in a relationship,” CMPD stated.
The case will be submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
