Pitso Mosimane praises Kaizer Chiefs saviour

Pitso Mosimane praises Kaizer Chiefs saviour as he takes on the responsibility this season.

Mosimane, the former coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has showered accolades on Chiefs forward Gaston Sirino. The 33-year-old Sirino made headlines after joining Chiefs on a free transfer from Sundowns, the club Mosimane originally brought him to in 2018.

Sirino played a pivotal role at Sundowns, helping the team secure an impressive haul of seven league titles, a Telkom Knockout, an MTN8, a Nedbank Cup, and an African Football League title during his six-and-a-half seasons. However, after attempting to reunite with Mosimane at Al Ahly, he fell out of favour at Sundowns.

Mosimane noted Sirino’s talent, stating, “Class is permanent. Top talent, loves training, has a lot of passion for the game and is opinionated. A bit emotional but manageable. A South American player.” He emphasised Sirino’s ability to contribute significantly to the team’s success: “He scores goals and has lots of assists, a very crucial ingredient in an attacking player.”

Sirino’s impact at Chiefs

Since joining Amakhosi, Sirino has made an immediate impact, scoring two goals and providing three assists in his first four matches. After another standout performance, he received the Man of the Match award, which highlights his growing importance in the squad.

Following the match, Sirino discussed the pressure of playing for a prestigious club like Kaizer Chiefs. He noted, “Very, very difficult game… SuperSport were very good, especially the first 30 minutes.” Despite the scoreline, he stressed the need for resilience: “But we need to push; it’s Kaizer Chiefs, a very big club. We need to win every game.”

Sirino acknowledged his responsibility within the team and the positive shift in mentality under coach Nasreddine Nabi. He stated, “It’s a big responsibility to play for Kaizer Chiefs, but I’m here to help the team… the change of mentality [under coach Nabi] has been important to all of us, because he changed the mentality to win every game.”

Looking ahead to another SuperSport game

As Chiefs prepare for their next challenge, Sirino is determined to continue contributing to the team’s success. He reflected on the previous game against Sundowns, saying, “I think also the last game against Sundowns we needed to score a little more goals, but it’s football. Now we need to recover for another difficult game against SuperSport.”

In a heartfelt gesture, Sirino also wished Dr. Kaizer Motaung a happy 80th birthday, saying, “Also happy birthday to the chairman, he is a legend to us.”
