PDP govs, stakeholders meet over NEC, Damagum’s fate

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a critical meeting last night to address internal conflicts that have plagued the party in recent months.

A major focus of the meeting was the issue surrounding the acting national chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, whose position has caused a split within the party.

The governors also discussed the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, which is expected to decide the future of Damagum and address other pressing matters.

Governors at the meeting included Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).

Other key stakeholders present were Damagum, former Senate President and PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, National Treasurer Ahmed Yayari Muhammed, and party spokesman Debo Ologunagba, among others.

As of the time of filing this report, discussions were still ongoing.

Governor Bala Mohammed, while addressing the stakeholders before the closed-door session, clarified that this was not a PDP Governors Forum meeting but a gathering of PDP stakeholders aimed at resolving the internal issues.

He assured that their resolution would be made public once the meeting concluded.

PDP governors deny legal suit in Zamfara

In a related development, the PDP Governors Forum denied reports that Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed or his supporters had filed a legal suit at the Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara, seeking to compel the convening of the party’s NEC meeting.

Dr Emmanuel Agbo, Director General of the PDP Governors Forum, in a statement, denied the claims, stating that Governor Bala had not instigated any legal action, either directly or through proxies, regarding the NEC meeting.

He urged the public to disregard the false reports.
