Parents laud Wike for paying 60% balance of FCT primary school teachers

The Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) has commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for intervening in paying the remaining 60 per cent balance of the 25 months minimum wage arrears of the primary school teachers in the territory.

City & Crime had reported that teachers under the NUT suspended their 3 weeks strike action following the intervention of Wike, who promised to pay the balance of the remaining 60 per cent of the teachers through ten per cent IGR of the six area councils.

Abubakar, gave the commendation when he led some state executives of the PTA on inspection on resumption of pupils across LEA primary schools in Gwagwalada, on Wednesday.

He said parents were disturbed when the teachers were on strike, saying the intervention of the minister has now brought a big relief to the parents to see their children returning to their classrooms across the FCT.

“The intervention of the FCT minister Nyesom Wike in paying the 60 per cent balance of the teachers minimum wage arrears has brought a big relief to the parents. At least, everyone knows the security situation we are facing in this country, seeing our children at home has caused the parents some sleepless night,” he said.

He added “ We know what some parents passed through during the two or three weeks teachers strike action where some children walked about without going to school,” he said.

The PTA chairman also commended Wike for his infrastructural development, especially in the education sector across the territory, pledging the association’s continuous support to the FCT administration.
