Orlando Pirates could lose superstar with two Euro sides circling

Orlando Pirates are flying high after another trophy. However, their success will continue to attract admirers for their star performers.

Saleng wanted in Europe

Orlando Pirates hope to command a massive fee for 26-year-old winger Monnapule Saleng, who has started 2024-2025 in sparkling form. Belgian Jupiter Pro League side Standard Liege are reported to be interested in the 2022-2023 PSL Player of the Season. This follows interest from France’s Ligue 1:

“It’s not like the interest died off. It is just that last season he was not playing much so it was hard for the teams interested in him to monitor his progress but they were checking what was going on. Now, since he is back in the thick of things, the interest has arisen again”, an anonymous source told Soccer Laduma.

“It’s Standard Liege that has shown interest. Actually, last season, they were also interested in Mohau Nkota while Monaco SC were interested in Saleng. So, now it is believed that the Standard Liege scouts are looking at Saleng since Nkota has not been playing much since his promotion”, they concluded.

The Sea Robbers are looking for more booty

Pirates are back in Africa’s premier club competition after successfully negotiating a playoff tie with Jwaneng Galaxy. The Buccaneers will kick off a tasty-looking Group C with a trip to Algerian champions Belouizdad on Saturday 26 November. There, they’re likely to renew acquaintances with former Cape Town City star Khanyisa Mayo. Pirates are brimming with confidence after winning yet another trophy under Jose Riveiro; this time they beat Stellenbosch in the MTN8 final.

Orlando Pirates receive R22 million, and the number could grow

Pirates are back at the top table of African continental competition following their routine aggregate win over Jwaneng Galaxy. They’ll participate in the 2024-2024 Caf Champions League group stages, and they bank a minimum of R12 million in the process. Advancement to the quarter-finals would swell Pirates’ earnings to R15.6 million and the money keeps on getting better the further they go. Add the R10 million they just banked from their MTN8 final and the shareholders are laughing all the way to the bank.
