The son of the man taken into custody as a suspect in the assassination attempt on Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has been arrested on federal charges of possessing child sexual abuse images.
Authorities were searching Oran Alexander Routh’s home in Greensboro, North Carolina, when they stumbled upon a trove of files depicting child sexual abuse.
The investigation was not related to child exploitation, but the objectionable materials were recovered from Oran Alexander Routh’s home, an FBI agent said in court papers.
FBI investigators have confiscated multiple electronic devices and discovered videos sent to Oran Routh in July.
They also discovered chats from messaging applications that are popular among persons who share child sexual abuse material.
Oran Alexander Routh has been charged with two counts of possessing and receiving child sexual abuse material and will be produced in federal court in North Carolina later on Tuesday.
The criminal complaint states,
“A review of the SD card located in Device-1 revealed that it contained hundreds of child pornography files. These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina.”
Oran Alexander Routh in court has not listed any attorney, and his phone message, which was left for his relatives, has not been answered.
Oran Alexander Routh’s father, Ryan Wesley Routh, is facing charges related to federal gun offenses in the assassination attempt at Trump’s Florida golf course earlier this month.
Prosecutors have revealed that even more serious attempted assassination charges are coming. He is also facing charges of illegally carrying a handgun with an obliterated serial number. Ryan Wesley Routh was earlier convicted twice on charges of having stolen items in North Carolina in 2002.
If Ryan Routh is found guilty, he could be sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to kill a public personality.
Ryan Routh was taken into custody on September 15 when a Secret Service member noticed him aiming a semiautomatic weapon at the Republican Party Presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
Ryan Routh had tried to escape but was captured after a chase with the public’s help, who identified the getaway vehicle in which he tried to escape.
Prosecutors also revealed that Ryan Routh had left a note explaining in detail how he would assassinate the former US President. The note was left in a box at the residence of an unnamed individual months prior to his arrest and was recovered later.
The note also contained a handwritten list of Trump’s anticipated appearance dates and locations.
