Former One Direction member Liam Payne has died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 31-year-old singer, who had been in Argentina to support his former bandmate Niall Horan, was reportedly staying at a hotel on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo district when tragedy struck on Wednesday.

According to Buenos Aires police, officers were called to the scene after receiving a 911 report about an aggressive man, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The statement didn’t name the man as Payne, but shortly after, his death was confirmed.
The shocking news comes just days after Payne was seen at Horan’s concert in the city on October 2, where he appeared in good spirits. Videos from the show posted on social media show the singer enjoying himself alongside thousands of other fans.
Payne had recently celebrated his 31st birthday in the UK, and had been documenting his life on Snapchat, giving fans a glimpse into his world.

Payne shot to stardom in 2010 as part of One Direction, the global boyband sensation that formed on “The X Factor.” Alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Horan, Payne’s life was forever changed as the group quickly became one of the biggest pop acts in history.
Speaking about his time in the band in a 2015 interview, Payne said:
“I do love being on stage.” He also proudly recalled co-writing the song “What a Feeling” with Tomlinson. “It just kinda came together. It was inspired by a Fleetwood Mac sound.”
Though the band went on hiatus in 2015, Payne pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album LP1 in 2019. Recently, he had shared his excitement about a new album and upcoming tour, though he had also been open about past struggles with substance abuse, celebrating six months of sobriety in summer 2023.
