Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, 54, posted a video which he titled “an album update live and direct from the studio.”

Jay – real name Jason Cheetham – could be seen in his home surroundings with a variety of tech equipment and a laptop.

Wearing a blue T-Shirt and black zip-up jacket he turned to face the camera front-on as he addressed his followers and said: “Hi people, just thought I’d send you a message.

“You must all be wondering where’s this bloody album he promised us?

“Well, I have good news. It’s right on the way.

“I am hard at work …” before turning the camera around as he exclaimed: “Can’t let you see that!”

He continued: “But so far, it’s looking like an 11-track banger with more to spare, as it were.

“Just trying to go for the stuff that is the creme de la creme.

“So anyway, I just thought I would put you in the picture seeing as I haven’t been around for ages.

“I’ve been in here working my a** off, 15 hour days.

“But that’s the way it is. Anyway, love you all.”

The Seven Days In Sunny June singer blew a kiss to the camera to wrap his video.

One fan was eager to comment: “Can we have a tour pls! All the classics been waiting ages.”

Another posted: “Wooooo,” as a third put: “The return of the Space Cowboy.”

One then added: “Love you Jamiroquai.”

The Sun was first to report how Jay Kay had started work on the release back in March.

Yet it came following the death of band member Derrick McIntyre earlier this year.

A source opened up on the bassist’s passing to The Sun and said: “Losing Derrick was hard for everyone who knew him.

“It’s a reminder that life is short.

“His passion for music was inspiring and everyone in Jamiroquai had Derrick in mind.”

During their 30-year career, Jamiroquai sold over 40 million records and notched up nine top 10 singles.

Their last record, Automaton, became their ninth top ten album.
