NFL ban Kansas City Chiefs from reacquiring L’Jarius Sneed in shock trade due to little-known rule

THE Kansas City Chiefs are barred from trading for one of the superstars of the league.

L’Jarius Sneed was traded from the Chiefs to the Tennessee Titans this offseason, and he is currently banned from returning.

Kansas City is atop the NFL with a 4-0 record, but things aren’t perfect for the squad.

The injury bug is hitting the Chiefs hard early in the season, with Isaiah Pacheco and Marquise Brown already out for the season. It is also feared that Rashee Rice could join them as there are concerns he tore his ACL.

On top of their offensive injuries, the Chiefs are struggling to defend the pass.

They rank as the No. 23 pass defense in the NFL, allowing 227 passing yards per game and five passing touchdowns.

This is way down from last season, when the Chiefs were ranked No. 4 in pass defense.

With all of the injuries on offense and the team’s struggle on defense, the Chiefs are expected to be active in the trade market before the deadline hits on November 5.

Seeing that one of their former stars in Sneed is sitting on a team with a 1-3 record, it might make sense for the Chiefs to reacquire him to boost their defense.

However, NFL reporter Ian Rapoport recently discovered that this would be prohibited based on the league’s rules.

Rapoport discovered this while digging into the situation regarding the New York Jets and Haason Reddick.

The Jets traded with the Philadelphia Eagles to receive Reddick, but he has refused to play for New York.

It was reported that Reddick would be open to a trade back to Philadelphia, but that is prohibited by the NFL rule book.

According to Rapoport, teams cannot reacquire a player they traded away until two years pass.

“The #Jets situation with Haason Reddick still has no resolution & some wondered if NYJ could trade him back to the #Eagles. Turns out, per NFL rules, not possible,” Rapoport wrote.

“Teams can’t trade a player, then reacquire him via trade until 2 years elapse. Reddick won’t head back to Philly.”

NFL fans shared their opinions about the rules, with many commenting on their distaste for the rule.

Chiefs injury crisis

Patrick Mahomes lost another offensive weapon to injury in the Week 4 win in Los Angeles

The Chiefs saw wide receiver Rashee Rice taken off on the back of a medical cart at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Kansas City was already without free agency signing wide receiver Hollywood Brown (shoulder) and starting running back Isiah Pacheco (fractured fibula).

Both are set to miss large parts of the 2024 NFL season.

Speaking after Sunday’s win over the LA Chargers sent them to 4-0, Mahomes said, “All we can do now is go back to the basics and try to get guys opportunities to succeed.

“The guys stepped up and filled in as good as they can the role that Rice has in our offense, which is a big one.”

“Okay that’s just a dumb rule,” one fan said.

“We learn something new everyday don’t we. Why does this remind me of le’veon bell situation,” another fan said.

“Nobody has heard of this rule until today!” a third fan said.

“That’s a very stupid rule,” a fourth fan said.

“This is the dumbest rule ever— i wonder what prompted it to be created to begin with,” a fifth fan said.
