NBCUNIVERSAL has revealed massive plans regarding its streaming platform.
The Comcast-owned network will be making changes to Peacock in 2025.
It was revealed by The Wall Street Journal that NBCUniversal will add its regional sports networks (RSNs) to Peacock, and it can be done in early 2025.
The report said that four NBC Sports networks will be added as local broadcast channels from Boston, Philadelphia, and California teams will be made available on the streaming service.
Fans will get to watch popular teams such as the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics as well as the MLB’s Philadelphia Phillies.
The games will still be shown on television, per WSJ.
NBCU is still in the process of finishing the details of the plan which could lead to delays in the potential official announcement.
The report added that executives have had ongoing discussions about making the channels available as add-ons locally so fans would have to pay extra to stream games.
The move comes during a time in which customers have opted for streaming instead of paying for cable.
NBCUs four RSNS had 10.7 million subscribers at the end of 2023, down from 13.4 million in 2018.
Netflix, which has tended to avoid live sports, has recently bought the rights to events which include Christmas Day NFL games.
NBCU already streams programs from the NFL, Big Ten, Premier League, golf, and the Tour de France.
During the summer, NBCU, Amazon, and ESPN received the rights to broadcast NBA games as part of an 11-year deal worth $77 million.
The deal also included the rights to distribute WNBA live game telecasts.
NBCU will air up to 100 NBA regular-season games per season.
Peacock will stream a doubleheader each Monday night of the season.
Every Tuesday night, NBC will broadcast two games across the network’s affiliate broadcast stations across the country.
All Tuesday games will be available on Peacock nationally.
NBC will be the home of NBA All-Star, including Rising Stars, State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, featuring AT&T Slam Dunk, Starry 3-Point Contest and Kia Skills Challenge, and the All-Star Game.
NBC and/or Peacock will show approximately 28 games in the first two rounds of the playoffs., with at least half of the contest airing on NBC.
And NBC will also broadcast one of the two Conference Finals series in six of the 11 years on a rotational basis with Amazon, beginning with the 2025-26 season.
