The Nigerian Navy’s ongoing Operation Delta Sanity has destroyed 124 illegal oil refining sites and arrested 55 suspected oil thieves in the Niger Delta.
The operation, which has been extended for another 90 days, has also led to the deactivation of 116 wooden boats, 543 dugout pits, 64 storage tanks, and the seizure of various equipment used in the construction of illegal refineries.
Rear Admiral Samson Bura, the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, stated this in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State while briefing journalists about the activities of Operation Delta Sanity.
He said the onslaught against oil thieves has positively impacted Nigeria’s oil production, which has increased to 1.7 million barrels per day from 1.3 million in June 2024.
Bura attributed the success of the operation to the use of advanced technology, intelligence inputs and community engagement.
