My brand new washer stopped working 10 days after I bought it at Lowe’s – then company refused to give me a refund

HOMEOWNERS have been warned to stay away from Lowe’s after a shopper’s brand new washing machine broke just 10 days after she bought it.

The disgruntled customer was forced to wash her clothes in her bathtub after her Maytag washer gave out on her.

After the washer was fixed, the mom noticed a loud rattling from the machine[/caption]

She warned other Lowe’s shoppers to avoid the brand after neither Lowe’s nor Maytag helped her fix the machine or get a replacement.

Under the handle @sullymom5, the buyer posted about her shopping experience on TikTok on September 22.

The video amassed over 400,000 views and over 21,000 likes for the mom-of-five, who only has about 70 followers on the platform.

The mom shared her complaint with a clip of a man washing clothes in a bathtub,

“When you buy a Maytag washer from Lowe’s and it breaks 10 days later and neither company will refund your money and you have to wait 10,000 days to repair it,” the TikTok user wrote over a clip of a man washing clothes in the bathtub.

“Thanks Maytag and Lowe’s! Buyer beware!”

In the caption of the post, she wrote, “Never buying from Lowe’s or Maytag again.”

As other Lowe’s shoppers shared their experiences in the comments section of the video, the original poster wrote that the retailer is a “scam.”

“I hate Lowe’s this happened to us with a refrigerator,” one person commented.

“Seems to be a common story with them!” the mom replied.

Lowe’s has a 48-hour return policy for major appliances – meaning the 10 days was too long for the family to return the broken washing machine.

It’s unclear what caused the appliance to stop working, but The U.S. Sun has reached out to the TikToker for clarification.

Three days later, she posted that the washer was repaired – but some problems still remained.

“Just an update… our ‘brand new’ washer from Lowe’s has been repaired,” she wrote.

Lowe’s return policy

Lowe’s has a wide-ranging return policy for items in store and by mail.

Customers can refund or exchange the following items within 48 hours of buying them from Lowe’s:

  • Major appliances like washers and dryers
  • Air conditioners
  • Pressure washers
  • Chain saws
  • Golf carts

The following items can be returned within 30 days:

  • TVs and electronics
  • Liquid paint
  • Water heaters
  • Outdoor power equipment

Within 90 days, you can return most unused merchandise, plants not including trees, and Craftsman outdoor power equipment.

The following items can be returned within a year of purchase:

  • Trees, shrubs and perennials
  • Items bought with Lowe’s rewards or credit cards

Lowe’s won’t accept returns without a valid proof of purchase.

“But now I’m afraid of the washer.

“Do other people’s washers sound like it’s going to explode?”

The video showed the Maytag washer rattling loudly.

“Seriously, do not shop at Lowe’s! This has been a horrible experience,” she wrote.

Shoppers in the comments shared her pain.

“Something about that Maytag brand 1 year in and I had to get it replaced… glad I bought the 4 year warranty,” one wrote.

“My old washer used to sound like that every time I washed a load,” another added.

Other users told her it might be shipping bolts still in the washer or a hose hitting the back of the machine.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Lowe’s and Maytag for comment.
