A mother got the shock of her life after her baby boy was swapped for a girl at a maternity ward.
The shocking baby-exchanging scandal happened at Chipinge District Hospital. The incident, which occurred on September 21, has sparked outrage and calls for thorough investigations into the hospital’s operations.
Chipinge Mother Had Her Baby Boy Swapped For Girl
Manica Post reported that Cynthia Masocha delivered a baby boy with the help of midwife Blessing Mutimbu, who confirmed the baby’s sex before recording the birth. Cynthia even breastfed her newborn son that night. But by the next morning, she was stunned to discover her child had been replaced by a baby girl.
Chipinge District Medical Officer, Dr. Ozmore Matekenya, confirmed:
“I heard about that issue, but I cannot give you a comment right now as I am attending a workshop in Mutare.”
Police have launched an investigation, and Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed that DNA tests will be conducted to determine the true paternity of the swapped baby.
“Detectives are on the ground investigating the matter to ascertain what really transpired,” he said.
However, no arrests have been made yet.

The Drama
Hospital records show Ms Masocha was the only woman to deliver a baby boy on September 21. Three women gave birth at the hospital that day, but the other two mothers had baby girls. This has led to suspicions of deliberate misconduct.
This isn’t the first time Chipinge District Hospital has faced such a scandal. In 2018, a woman kidnapped a five-day-old baby from the hospital, posing as a Good Samaritan to the mother before snatching the child in a desperate attempt to save her marriage.
The baby swap incident has left the Chipinge community in shock, with many wondering how such a mix-up could occur in a hospital environment. Authorities are under pressure to provide answers and bring those responsible to justice.
