(WSPA) – Some Upstate school districts and universities are returning to class this week.
Schools have been closed due to power outages and other issues caused by Hurricane Helene. But as debris is being cleaned up and more and more Upstate residents getting power back, schools are opening up once again.
The following school districts have announced their plans to return this week. We will update this list as more schools announce their plans. Some North Carolina school districts, including Yancey, Mitchell, Buncombe, Madison and Asheville will be closed until it is safe to reopen in their areas.
- Cherokee County Schools will be on a two-hour delay Tuesday
- Spartanburg District One will reopen on a regular schedule Tuesday
- Spartanburg District 2 will return on normal schedule Tuesday
- Spartanburg District Four will be be on a two-hour delay Tuesday and resume regular schedule on Wednesday
- Spartanburg District 5 be on a two-hour delay Tuesday
- Spartanburg District Six will reopen on a two-hour delay Tuesday. All after school programs and activities will resume as scheduled.
- Spartanburg District 7 will be on a two-hour delay Tuesday
- Spartanburg Preparatory School is on two-hour delay
- Mountain View Preparatory School will resume normal schedule on Tuesday
- Greenville County Schools will reopen on Wednesday and transportation will run modified bus routes. Families will be contacted directly if they are impacted. All field trips are canceled and no decisions have been made about athletics at this time
- Oconee County Schools are on fall break this week
- Pickens County Schools reopened on Monday
- Laurens County District 55 is on fall break
- Laurens District 56 is on fall break this week
- Greenwood District 50 is on fall break this week
- Greenwood District 51 is on fall break this week
- Greenwood District 52 is on fall break this week
- Abbeville County Schools are on fall break until Wednesday
- Henderson County Schools will be closed all week
- McDowell County Schools will return to school Wednesday and be on a two-hour delay all week
- Haywood County Schools will be closed this week
- Transylvania County Schools will be closed all week
- Rutherford County Schools will reopen Wednesday
- Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy will have a teacher workday Tuesday
- Spartanburg Community College reopened on normal schedule on Monday
- Spartanburg Methodist College will reopen to students at noon on Tuesday. Classes will resume Wednesday at 9 a.m.
