Malik Nabers injury update with huge progress made by New York Giants star after concussion problems

MALIK Nabers has made “progress” since suffering a concussion on September 26.

The New York Giants star, 21, has been undergoing concussion protocol since his team’s Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Brian Daboll gave an update on Nabers’ status[/caption]

During the fourth quarter of the game, Nabers took a heavy blow as he attempted to make a catch.

He has since missed the Giants’ subsequent games against the Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals.

On Wednesday, Giants coach Brian Daboll offered an update on Nabers’ progress.

He revealed that the former LSU star had made “progress” and would be practising in a red jersey.

Daboll, 49, was also “optimistic” that following the non-contact session, Nabers would be able to take the next step in his recovery on Thursday.

There is even hope that Nabers could return to action for this Sunday’s Week 7 match-up with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nabers was the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Prior to his injury, he had produced an impressive start to life in the league.

In four games he caught 35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns.

The NFL’s concussion protocol includes five stages that players must pass before returning to action.

Non-contact training is included in phase four of the protocol.

Nabers’ remaining hurdle to getting back out on the field will require him to receive clearance from a club physician AND independent neurological consultant.

Should he not return in time for Sunday’s game against the Eagles, he could target a Monday Night Football return.

The Giants are set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 28.

On his wide receiver’s recovery, Daboll said: “Malik has made progress. Good progress where he’s able to come out here today and practice.

“He’ll have a red jersey on, but he passed some of the steps that he needed to do. He’s better, which is a good thing.

“So, we’ll see. We’ll go through today. I’m optimistic, but I’m not going to push anything.

“That type of injury you want to be smart with. But he is doing much better and it’ll be good to have him out here at practice today.”

Daboll then confirmed that offensive tackle Andrew Thomas’ injury will be season ending.

“Well, you can’t replace an Andrew Thomas,” Daboll admitted. “I feel terrible for him. I was able to text with him today. He had his surgery this morning, everything was successful.”
