Major grocer is selling a 5ft tall Lindt chocolate advent calendar for Christmas – and shoppers are going wild

SHOPPERS are going wild after discovering that a major grocer is selling a huge five foot tall Lindt advent calendar.

Though it may not be within everyone’s budget, this unique item is a first-of-its-kind and is available exclusively at Costco.

But not just anyone can shop at Costco – you must be a member

The five-foot-tall Lindt “Giant Advent Calendar” has arrived on the shelves of all 29 of the retailer’s stores and can be purchased for £179.98.

Much like every advent calendar we encounter, it features 24 windows filled to the brim with chocolate.

However, rather than just small bite-sized pieces, shoppers of this item will be rewarded with an array of full-size treats.

From Lindt’s iconic chocolate bear and Father Christmas to boxes of Lindor chocolates, there’s plenty to enjoy inside this calendar.

Shoppers have reacted to the news on social media, calling it insane.

One person said on TikTok: “This is insane.

Another said: “Wow, that’s huge. My favourite chocolate as well. I need to go to Costco now.”

However, others were quick to question the product’s value.

One person said: “At £7.50 per day, it’s hard to imagine this will offer true value when vs buying the items.”

Another shopper added: “We worked it out to be about £90 of chocolates if bought separately from Tesco – not worth it at all.

What is Costco and how does it work?

Costco is a chain retail store that sells items in bulk. It also sells items under its own brand, Kirkland.

But not just anyone can shop at Costco – you need to be a member.

To be eligible for membership, you need to have – or be retired from – a certain type of job.

This includes public sector workers such as NHS staff, police officers, teachers, and local government workers, as well as those working in banking and finance.

A full list of accepted jobs and qualifications can be found on the Costco website.

Costco membership starts from £15 a year for online shopping only, rising to £33.60 a year for individual members who want access to the warehouses.

There are also trade memberships for businesses starting at £26.40 a year.

Each membership includes a free membership card for spouses and partners who live together.

The retailer offers a range of other services for members, from discounted fuel and tyre installation to mortgage services and pet insurance.

We’ve analysed how much you could save by shopping at the discount retailer.

But it’s important to be savvy and remember that a bargain is only a bargain if you are going to buy the item anyway.

How to bag a bargain

SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…

Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.

Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.

Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.

Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
