LR Women’s Soccer Suffers First Regular Season Loss in Over Two Years

For the first time in 777 days, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer team falls in a regular season contest. North Georgia scored the game’s lone goal in the 26th minute to defeat the Bears 1-0 in a non-conference match up on Wednesday afternoon. It was the first loss in the regular season for Lenoir-Rhyne since September 14, 2022 against UNC Pembroke.

The only goal of the day was scored in the 26th minute off the right the Nighthawks’ Darby Olive. Each team had 11 shots on the day but the Bears only had two in the second half.

Riley Miller made three saves in goal for the Bears while Sierra Fowler made six stops for North Georgia. Fowler pitched a shutout as the Bears were held without a goal for the first time all season.

Both teams were listed under the teams under consideration for an the NCAA Tournament in the initial regional rankings that came out on Tuesday.

Evan O’Leary’s points streak ends at eleven games. The Bears finished 1-1-2 this season in non conference games. The Bears are now 4-3-2 all-time against North Georgia.

LR drops to 9-1-4 overall, 7-0-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears will make their last road trip of the regular season on Saturday with a trip to Tusculum. The Pioneers are 2-7-1 in the SAC and currently tied for 10th place in the conference standings. The Bears can win the regular season SAC title with two wins in their last two SAC contests.
