WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The first ever Ovarian Cancer 5K took place on Saturday.
Amanda Laughlin was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer March of 2023. While Laughlin was fighting her battle she realized that there just isn’t enough research and awareness about the disease, which is why she put together the Ovarian Cancer 5K. She wanted to educate the community she lives in about this silent killer, all while raising money to go towards finding a cure.
“Obviously, I went through all the emotions. Why me? Why is this happening? I’m a healthy person. I have two kids, 11 and 13, and I was just going to do whatever it took to be here for them,” said Laughlin.
