KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Electric employees from several parts of eastern North Carolina travelled to the western part of the state to help communities dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Saturday morning, two Kinston electric employees shipped out to Kings Mountain, one of the hard hit areas., according to a Facebook post from the city of Kinston.
“We’re very proud of Scott and Zachary for volunteering to help our fellow public power communities,” Steve Miller, Director of Kinston Public Service, said.
On Friday, a large contingent of Greenville Utilities electric employees travelled to the western end of the state to assist other power crews in the wake of floods. Those crews travelled to Morganton and Drexel.
“Our crews will work alongside others from across the country who operate under mutual aid agreements. These agreements allow community agencies to come together following disasters where system damage is widespread and significant,” Greenville Utilities said on Facebook.
Several local electric cooperatives in the east have sent help to other hard hit communities, as well, including Tri-County Electric and Four County Electric.
