Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Edges Out Wingate

The #11 ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer team defeated rival Wingate 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Moretz Sports Athletic Complex. With the win, the Bears remain undefeated in the SAC and throughout the early part of the season. Vivien Becker Peralta got the game’s only goal in the 32nd minute off a corner kick from Evan O’Leary. Bears will remain at home and will welcome Anderson to Hickory on Wednesday evening.

Becker Peralta got the Bears on the board for the game winning goal in the 32nd minute when Becker Peralta headed the ball into the net off an O’Leary corner kick. Wingate out shot the Bears 17-9 but both teams had six shots on goal.

LR had six corner kick opportunities compared to the Bulldogs one. Riley Miller had six saves in goal for the Bears for her second clean sheet of the year.

Wingate is the last team to beat the Bears in SAC play as LR is 23-0-3 in their last 26 SAC games. Bears are also 16-0-4 in their last 20 home games

O’Leary’s assist is her 7th of the year, which leads the SAC. She has four assists in her last three games.

This game was scheduled for a 7:30 pm kickoff but was moved up to a 1pm start. Lenoir-Rhyne is 4-0-2 overall, 2-0-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears play welcome Anderson to Hickory on Wednesday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
