Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Falls to Carson-Newman

Lenoir-Rhyne wasn’t on their A-game on Friday night, falling to Carson-Newman in straight sets. This was just the second loss of the season for the Bears, who are off to a program best 19-2 start. LR struggled offensively in the contest, as they finished with just a .164 hitting %, their fourth lowest of the season.

The Eagles went up 13-5 early in the opening set and didn’t look back, taking the opening set 25-20.

An Averie Dale kill ignited an early 7-3 run for Lenoir-Rhyne in set two. Carson-Newman quickly erased that deficit, closing the set on a 22-9 run to go up 2-0.

The Eagles used an 8-3 start in the third set to pull away from the Bears for the sweep.

Jenna Vogen led with 11 kills, while Sydney Karjala dished out 18 assists. Brooke Aeschliman nearly had a double-double, finishing with 11 digs and a season-high nine kills. The Bears hit just .164 in the contest, compared to .288 for Carson-Newman.

Lenoir-Rhyne now holds a 38-42 record against the Eagles. The series began in 1983 when LR took down C-N 3-0. This was just the second loss of the season for the Bears, who fell to Wingate earlier this month. The Bears are tied with Carson-Newman for second in the SAC. Wingate leads with a 10-1 conference record.

The Bears won’t have much time to think about tonight’s defeat as they turn around to face Lander tomorrow in Greenwood, South Carolina. First serve for this non-conference contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
