Legendary journalist and author Colin Chapman dies at age 87

Legendary presenter and journalist Colin Chapman has died at the age of 87.

The experienced reporter and editor had worked for the BBC, The New York Times and the ABC and was also the author of several books.

Chapman, a former deputy editor of the Australian newspaper and a columnist for Australian Outlook, reportedly suffered from ill health for several years before his death.

The Australian Institute of International Affairs reported Monday that Chapman had died over the weekend.

Before he died, he was receiving dialysis three times a week and was determined to be legally blind.

Born in Britain in 1937, Chapman began his long media career in England and later became an Australian citizen.

He went on to work on radio and TV for the BBC and in Australia for ABC.

In Great Britain, Chapman held important positions at The Sunday Times and the Financial Times.

Chapman also made his mark writing for The Washington Post.

In Australia, Chapman also worked as an assistant editor for the famous news magazine The Bulletin.

He later became deputy editor of the Australian newspaper and was executive producer for ABC Radio’s current affairs program PM for three years.

Chapman was also a founding producer of ABC’s The World Today.

In recent years he had developed close ties with the Australian Outlook magazine, a magazine that examines Australian politics and international affairs.

Known as a political analyst. Chapman was also an expert on economics and gained fame as a first-rate foreign correspondent.

Some of the stories he told in his long career included terrorist attacks in Hong Kong in the 1960s and international conflicts in Africa and the Suez region.
